Visual Communications

Could you be a . . . Visual Designer?

Have you ever been told that your bedroom or desk resembles a stage set? Is your favorite part of history or science class building dioramas? Your natural abilities just may be screaming, "Visual Designer"!

A Visual Designer creates exciting themes and displays for store windows, in-store displays, trade shows, galleries, and special events. What's needed? The ability to mix creative thinking with the skills to execute your ideas.

Look at some of the great careers you can have with a degree in Visual Communications from FIDM:

A Director of Visual Merchandising creates the visual image of a store or chain through the use of displays, advertising campaigns, events, graphics, and fixturing. There's a tremendous variety of work and some travel involved.

A Store Visual Manager is responsible for creating an exciting "visual theatre" in which merchandise is sold. You'll determine things like the colors, props, and fixtures that best complement the store's image and merchandise, just like in a real show!

A Stylist is a hot career in what is called "visual storytelling." A Stylist helps create the overall look of fashion shows, magazine layouts, videos, TV, movies, and live performances. Celebrities often hire Stylists to dress them for events and awards shows.

An Exhibit Designer is responsible for designing and often organizing events such as traveling exhibits, trade show events, fashion shows, and museum galleries. The job can involve a working with different people and the opportunity to travel.

A Special Events Coordinator is responsible for organizing events such as fashion shows, store openings, and trade shows. They also can be responsible for interacting with the press and the rest of the fashion industry.
