Textile Design

Could you be a . . . Textile Designer?

Ever wonder who thinks up the checks on your shirt, or the wacky teddy bear print on your PJs? Well, somebody has to be the creative force behind these fabrics, and that somebody is a Textile Designer.

A Textile Designer creates original designs and "repeats" for the fabrics used in every sort of industry, from fashion to interiors. Designs can be surface-printed, knitted, woven, or embroidered. What's needed? A broad creativity combined with technical skills.

Look at some of the great careers you can have with a degree from FIDM in Textile Design:

Textile Designers
create the designs for fabrics we wear and use, from fashion to upholstery. Textile designers can be surface designers, knitters, weavers, or embroiderers.

A CAD Textile Designer is good at painting and drawing but works specifically on the computer to create designs. Technological advances in computer-aided design (CAD) software offer designers unlimited creative opportunities.

A Textile Stylist is the creative person who is responsible for the style, selection, and overall image of the line of products for a company. You'll coordinate the work of designers, engravers, and production people.

A Textile Colorist chooses the color combinations that will be used in creating each textile design. Colorists frequently travel to fashion markets and belong to color forecasting organizations to stay on top of current and future color trends.

An Account Executive sells to and manages accounts for a textile manufacturer, and is responsible for the business side of textiles. This is a great career for someone who enjoys working with the business side of things as well as in the textile, fashion, and home furnishing markets.
