Arizona’s well-heeled clientele seeking a one-of-a-kind evening gown for their next charity ball or other black-tie affair need look no further than Scottsdale-based designer Stephanie Edge ’94. While her dresses can cost from $1800-$3,000 or more, depending on complexity, her patrons are assured they’ll be the only one wearing the dress. If that’s not reason enough, it could be the fact that they’re wearing a work of art.


 
1. What's your vision?
 
 

STEPHANIE: To keep my vision undiluted,” Stephanie explains, “I don’t make dresses to order. Every dress is solely what I’ve envisioned it to be.” Word-of-mouth has helped her business to grow in the two years since she left Northern California, where she attended FIDM and designed bridal gowns. So far, Stephanie is the only one designing custom evening gowns in her area. “It’s an emerging market,” she says of Arizona, “and that’s a challenge but it works for me.

  
 
 
2. What inspires you?
 
 

STEPHANIE: I approach my work as an artist and I’m inspired by fabric and travel,” says Stephanie. In addition to Europe and Asia, she’s particularly influenced in color and fabric choices by the warm waters and sandy beaches of the Caribbean where she soaks up more than just the rays.   

 
 
 
3. What's up next?
 
 

STEPHANIE: While she can’t reveal too many details about her latest design, currently in production, she promises that it will be “extravagant and striking.” In addition to winning the 2005 Rising Star Award for Apparel from the Arizona Chapter of Fashion Group International, Stephanie has been profiled in many Arizona publications including the Arizona Republic and Arizona Foothills.
