Chit Chat is your chance to mix 'n mingle– virtually– with movers and shakers in the Fashion Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design, and Entertainment industries.

Guadalupe Vidal was one of the five FIDM grads chosen to compete as finalists in the second season of Project Runway. We loved her inventive, feminine designs for the show, and we caught up with her via email during her vacation, which she spent driving across the Southwest.


 
1. What opportunities did Project Runway open up? What have you been doing since Project Runway?
 
 

GUADALUPE: Working for a production marketing company called Jack Morton Worldwide at the Pacific Design Center (in West Hollywood, California).

  
 
 
2. What did you do after graduating FIDM?
 
 

GUADALUPE: I did not go to FIDM for Design. I actually went for Marketing & Product Development. I started my own hat and handbag company. I got into styling for television shows, commercials, and independent films product-placing my goods on shoots and the shows I did. Freelance production. Styling & wardrobe and designing clothing.

  
 
 
3. How did FIDM help you get to Project Runway or prepare you for it?
 
 

GUADALUPE: It inspired me to do whatever it takes to market myself. I never watched Project Runway before and some friends told me I should try out and I did. Voila.

  
 
 
4. What was your favorite challenge from the season? What was the hardest?
 
 

GUADALUPE: The “Clothes Off Your Back” challenge was my favorite. All of them were the most challenging. No one will ever know what it is like to be in the situation we were in and it’s better that way. It's a very awkward feeling all around, yet very rewarding to put yourself out on the longest, thinnest limb and just hope. Everything is cake from here. I've been exposed in my rawest states. Life is funny and random!

  
 
 
5. Who is the dream person you would like to dress? What inspires you most? Who are your favorite designers (past/present)?
 
 

GUADALUPE: Gwen Stefani. People who are doing what they love to do. Madeleine Vionette, Issey Miyake, and Bijan.
