THIS MONTH’S QUESTION:
I love fashion, but I can’t draw! Does this mean I can’t be a Fashion Designer?
Dear Shauna,
This is the number one question that people ask me, and the answer is that it doesn’t mean anything of the sort! You don’t need to know how to draw right now in order to become a Fashion Designer in the future. At FIDM, you will learn everything that you need to know about drawing for the fashion industry. Besides that, there are zillions of careers in fashion that don’t involve any drawing or sewing at all—careers like Product Developer, Visual Merchandiser, Department Store Manager, Boutique Owner, Merchandise Planner, and Fashion Show Coordinator.
Fashion Design is by no means the only fashion career you can prepare for. FIDM has 15 great majors in fashion, interiors, graphics, and the entertainment industries. So relax, and get ready to have a great fashion career. It’s in your future!
All my fashionable best,
